Tiffen 82mm Circular Polarizer Filters - Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.

What is the difference between the coarse thread filter and the regular circular polarizing filter?
Asked by: Courtney
Tiffen coarse thread filters have a 1.0 pitch, while the majority of filters have a 0.75 pitch. Thread pitch is the distance between the same point on adjacent threads of a screw, so a larger number means a more coarse thread, while a smaller number means a finer thread.

question

I am considering the purchase of a Sigma 150-500mm lens for a Canon 7D. Is the thread on this filter compatible to the above-mentioned lens? Thanks.JH
Asked by: Anonymous
No, it would not. The Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM APO Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS uses 86mm filters, not 82mm filters. The Tiffen 86mm (Coarse Thread) Circular Polarizing Filter, B&H # TICP86C, would be the filter for your stated lens.

does it cause vignetting in the corners?
Asked by: Lisa
This would depend on your focal length and if your camera sensor was full frame or cropped. When shooting wide focal lengths and a full size sensor, you are more likely to experience vignetting.

Are there any CPL's that do not adjust the amount ...

Are there any CPL's that do not adjust the amount of polarization?
Asked by: Deborah
A circular polarizer filter's job is to adjust the polarization of the light that passes through the filter. As such, every circular polarizer filter (CPL), including the Tiffen 82mm Circular Polarizing Filter, will adjust the amount of polarized light entering the lens onto which it is attached. As you set the amount of polarization by twisting the outer ring on the filter, you may set it from very little polarization (where it appears to have no effect) to maximum polarization based on the angle in which the light is entering the lens.
