Tiffen 52UVP overview

  • 1Description

The Tiffen 52mm UV Protector Filter is a general use, clear filter that helps to absorb ultraviolet light and reduce the bluish cast of daylight. This filter is especially useful when photographing at high altitudes or around bodies of water. No additional coloration or contrast is provided, allowing you to pair this filter with others.

The UV filter is also useful as a general protective filter to leave on lenses at all times. Filters help to reduce dust and moisture from reaching your lens element and provide additional protection in case of drops or situations where scratching could occur.

Tiffen filters are made using ColorCore technology; a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass, grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, then mounting to precision metal rings.

Absorbs some ultraviolet light and reduces bluish cast of daylight.
Clear filter provides no additional coloration or contrast, allowing you to pair this filter with others.
General protection filter reduces dust, moisture, and scratches from reaching lens elements.

    Tiffen 52UVP reviews

52mm UV Protector Filter is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 643.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not very good at what it does I found that this protector, and the 49mm one I bought at the same time, were not very well sealed at all. The glass rattles around inside the ring and dust enters freely. And when I say rattles around I really mean it, it's like I've got a bell stuck on my collar to warn away the pigeons. Of course, for $, I wasn't expecting perfection, but this is pretty shoddy. Optically, it's prone to flare and ghosting. For what I use this for--protecting the front element of a 30 year old lens worth that I only use occasionally from hard knocks--this is acceptable, but for anything more than that, bite the bullet and go with a nice B+W MRC UV filter.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Tiffen UV Protector filter - beware I bought this as a lens protector for a 50mm 1.4D AF Nikon lens. It works fine UNLESS you have any strong forward lighting. It routinely adds reflective images if this is the case. Removing the filter eliminates these images so it is clearly the filter. I have a Quantaray 67 mm DMC-UV filter and it doesn't have this problem - so it shouldn't just be because it's inexpensive. Again, it's fine unless you're in the above conditions but it's a real pain when you notice it after the shot!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Smart Choice I use the 52mm UV Protector Filter by Tiffen to protect a new Panasonic 45-200mm zoom lens for HD filming with a Panasonic AF-100. Recently, I've been filming fast-action outdoor sports like thoroughbred horse racing. To be honest, I find the filter responsive to most circumstances (sunny, cloudy, rainy, etc) I hardly even think about it. At first, it was a little tricky to find the thread to screw the filter on top of the lens, I thought I had the wrong size. Sure enough, it fit snug as a glove and remains there. It makes so much sense to protect an investment like a zoom lens with a cost-effective filter. I now have one on each of my lenses.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Only good for the price I would have given it a 2.5 stars if that was possible (why isn't it?!).I used this on my canon 50mm f/1.8 lens and decided to remove it even though I'm still waiting for my B+W replacement. The good: the lens cap fits easily and the image qulity reduction is barely noticed (but it does). The bad: 1. I'm shooting (mainly) stage performances and there is a strong lens flare effect. 2. The Glass doesnt fit the protector frame well, it is cheap- and it feels that way. I would only recommend this product to anyone who doesn't realy care about lens flare or doesn't want to spend more than 10$ for a filter.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Get Filter for under 10 BUCKS! Anyone must get their lens covered with an UV protection filter. If your lens cost more than $1000 you should get B+W 010 MRC. But for the lens cost under $100 I see no reason of investing more than $10. Unlike an Multi-Resistant Coated UV filter that can go as high as $100 which you will see metal ring clearly, you will see obvious cut glass mark in the circumfrence of the metal ring. I am not sure this filter necessary reduce lens flare, because I still get my the lens flare/ghost while shooting at night with my ef 50mm f/1.8. To improove your picture contrast, go with CPL filter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Saved me from the family prank! I just bought this in time for a family trip (family = Uncles, Aunts, Cousins... a lot of family) to Southern California for a graduation. Little did I know that we all had the same brand of camera a NIKON - this became The Official Family Camera. Since most of us had it and my uncle and I bought it at this website. So my family has this on going prank of putting butter on your glasses, but this time around they did it on our cameras, good thins I had this otherwise it would have been a pain to remove it. It saved me from having special effects on my photos since I just removed the filter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Your A is Grass without this Glass! I'm a wedding videographer that sometimes has to run around and dive onto the ground and other such activities that would expose my lenses to harm. Sure, I have insurance, but insurance isn't going to help you in the middle of a wedding day. Put a protective filter on the front of your lens. This one DOES NOT effect the picture quality, but if it gets scratched, I take it off, throw it out, and keep on shooting. That scratch would have been something more expensive, but it's not with this thing on the front. I strongly recommend you buy one of these for all your lenses!
