Tiffen 82UVP overview

  • 1Description

The Tiffen 82mm UV Protector Filter is a general use, clear filter that helps to absorb ultraviolet light and reduce the bluish cast of daylight. This filter is especially useful when photographing at high altitudes or around bodies of water. No additional coloration or contrast is provided, allowing you to pair this filter with others.

The UV filter is also useful as a general protective filter to leave on lenses at all times. Filters help to reduce dust and moisture from reaching your lens element and provide additional protection in case of drops or situations where scratching could occur.

Tiffen filters are made using ColorCore technology; a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass, grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, then mounting to precision metal rings.

Absorbs some ultraviolet light and reduces bluish cast of daylight.
Clear filter provides no additional coloration or contrast, allowing you to pair this filter with others.
General protection filter reduces dust, moisture, and scratches from reaching lens elements.

    Tiffen 82UVP reviews

82mm UV Protector Filter is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 161.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from LOTS of flare, plus hard vignetting at 24mm This filter produces hard corner vignetting on the Sigma 24-105 f/4. The deal breaker, however, is it produces a lot of hazy veiling flare when shooting toward a light source. I give it one star because I'd rather have flare than a scratched front element, and this filter seems sturdy. It's also optically pristine when the sun is at your back. However, you can still have protection without flare, so my copy is being replaced by a Zeiss filter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The filter is stackable This filter is well constructed and allows for the addition of a circ. polarizing filter because it is threaded to accept other filters easily, unlike some other filters that don't. I use this on my Canon 16-35mm f/2.8L II lens. It is the least expensive quality 82mm filter available.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Saved my new canon EF wide angle zoom So i bought a new wide angle zoom for my 5dmk111. I'll use it to shoot my folks when they come over to the US on hols thought I. Usually I save my 5d for short films etc. Blow me down if I didn't I drop it and boy was I glad I had the filter on - as the filter smashed, but it saved my lens! How can I shoot so many paying jobs no probs and then drop it shooting stills of my mum and dad? Life's like that so its good to have a filter I find!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Affordable & Reliable Ultimately, it's a solid filter. I have been using this with my 24-70mm lens and it's been great. There are occasions where I do get sun glare, but it's a pretty cool look on certain videos and photos. In addition, this is my 2nd purchase. I had an accident while I was traveling and tripped on something where my camera hit the ground first. Thank God the filter was able to protect my lens, leaving no damage, and only cracked the filter lens. Totally would recommend to anyone who's looking for an affordable and reliable filter.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointed...it cracked I didn't have the lens flare issues like most people but after only owning it 6 months, it cracked. I haven't used the lens its on in a month. The lens has been sitting in its bag, inside my camera case with the cap on. I pulled it out today and it had one large crack through the middle.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Soft ring material The material used to make the ring seemed a bit soft. I used it on my new Sigma 10-20 lens for my Cuban trip. At first I thought I didn't screw it in properly or tight enough, but when the second time it popped off I looked closely and discovered the thread (which was very fine) on the filter ring was worn. It was strange because it never happened to me in the past (this is my first Tiffen in operation). I can't argue it is indeed very cheap but I had to replace it with another one (this time Germany).

Rated 1 out of 5 by from creates flares buy the b+w filter instead. this creates flares all over the picture. some you'll never see until you see the print on your computer. annoying. tiffen should make better stuff than this. it embarasses their entire brand.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good cheap solution This is a good solution to protect expensive glass. I use this in wet conditions and works like a charm. This doesn't compare to one that is 5x the price, but you get what you pay for.
