Tiffen 62UVP Overview

  • 1Description

The Tiffen 62mm UV Protector Filter is a general use, clear filter that helps to absorb ultraviolet light and reduce the bluish cast of daylight. This filter is especially useful when photographing at high altitudes or around bodies of water. No additional coloration or contrast is provided, allowing you to pair this filter with others.

The UV filter is also useful as a general protective filter to leave on lenses at all times. Filters help to reduce dust and moisture from reaching your lens element and provide additional protection in case of drops or situations where scratching could occur.

Tiffen filters are made using ColorCore technology; a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass, grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, then mounting to precision metal rings.

Absorbs some ultraviolet light and reduces bluish cast of daylight.
Clear filter provides no additional coloration or contrast, allowing you to pair this filter with others.
General protection filter reduces dust, moisture, and scratches from reaching lens elements.

    Tiffen 62UVP Reviews

62mm UV Protector Filter is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 219.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from good value for the cost I bought Tiffen UV protectors for all three of my lenses; the 50mm prime, the 105mm macro, and my 18-200 zoom. They have all been quality pieces and function well for what I needed. The filters mount to the lenses cleanly and all allow use of the stock Nikon lens covers as well. The price paid is reasonable to get some protection for the front lens element and the filter helps with blocking out some UV although I cannot really see any discernible difference in the photos with or without the filters; so I got the filters mostly for the protection factor. Build quality consistently good in all three of my Tiffen products.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very satisfied for the price I use this on my SP 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di VC USD Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon Digital SLR camera. I looked at much more expensive filters and chose this because the reviews were good and the price was right. I know you get what you pay for, but I am very satisfied with this filter. I have purchased Tiffen filters in the past for other cameras and have had them for years. I am not a professional photographer, just a Mom wanting photos of her children. I have tried more expensive filters that were borrowed and cannot tell the difference in quality of my photos. Again, I am not a professional

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great piece of mind There is the debate of Do digital cameras need UV filters and frankly I don't care. I keep this screwed into the front of a Panasonic FZ1000 at all times. I'd rather scratch this than my lens. 62mm back threads screw into the lens, and has 62mm threads on the front so you can screw other filters into this if needed. I often use a variable ND filter screwed into the front of this when shooting outdoor footage with no issues. My only complaint is the lens cap comes off easier from this than it does the lens itself. Most likely an issue with the lens cap not the filter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Saved my lens, Okay, so I never thought I'd write a review for a piece of window glass - which I believe all these UV filters basically are - but this one really deserves if: I dropped my $ Sony Rx10 and all I saw was a cracked $ filter! Now, I've been using filters for ages to protect the front element of my lens against scratches, but this is new, it protected my camera & lens against breakage, too. That's very different; somehow the mortal ring and the glass must have absorbed enough of the impact energy to spare my beloved Zeiss lens, and that's all I need. MONEY WELL SPENT !!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Would not recommend for telephoto work Loss in Sharpness and Contrast, originally, I thought it was the lens, until I took this filter off. Also submitted with the review are two shots of cosmetics, one with and one without the filter attached.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Saved my camera!! I've had the Tiffen 62mm UV filter on my camera from day 1 because I read that it is important to protect your lens especially when you are spending a small fortune. Somehow my camera bag feel out of the back of my truck and I really didn't think much of it. Padded bag, short fall. After taking a few pictures, I noticed some funny glare on the pictures. When I looked at the lens my filter had cracked in a V shape! Thank God I had the filter on my lens otherwise I would be purchasing a new lens. I highly recommend this filter to have on your lens, always!! Get one for each lens you own. One con is that when shooting at night with bright streets lights, you may need to remove the filter due to very minimal glare. Not enough to dock a star for!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Artifacts galore This filter produced very odd and ugly bokeh artifacts in light areas with my Nikon D90 and a Tamron A005 70-300mm zoom at long focal lengths. They appear as parallel lines or corduroy. I found a couple of similar reports--with pics--online for other inexpensive UV filters in combination with a zoom (Nikon 70-300mm VR) or telephoto lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great filter for the price! I'm not a professional photographer, however I ordered 5 filters all made by Tiffen (UV and Polarized) and I'm very pleased with them all! This particular filter screws on very easily, is very secure. The frame is small enough that you can add other filters on top (UV, Florescent, etc.) of this without having to remove this one. It also comes with a nice durable plastic case that I use for storing it when I remove this filter from my camera (haven't yet though). In conclusion, I would recommend this filter!
