Crumpler has just announced three new gear-friendly bags designed for traveling photographers, video shooters and anyone who travels with lots of stuff. The trio consists of the Bronzed Extravaganza, a shoulder-style bag that offers lots of space and mobility, the Flaked Extravaganza, a carry-on-sized model with a collapsing trolley handle and anti-jam wheels, and lastly, the Gourmet Extravaganza, an overhead compartment compliant full-sized piece of luggage that can either hold all of your gear, all of your vacation clothes or a mixture of the two.
All three models share a professional-looking dark exterior, with bright red padded material on the inside. The bright color will help you locate small pieces of gear inside the bag, and the dark exterior helps you remain low-profile in transit. Even though each one has a totally different form factor, they all share a unified style, the ability to strap-on a tripod, military-grade 1680D ballistic nylon construction and a lifetime guarantee.
Although it’s the most compact bag in the series, the Bronzed Extravaganza can still hold lenses and a couple of full-sized camera bodies comfortably. If you shoot video, there’s enough space to carry an entire HDSLR rig confidently, with all of your rails, a matte box and follow focus. The interior has 976.4 cubic inches of room (16 liters). It’s a shoulder bag that doubles as a handheld, and both sets of straps feature padding and were designed for comfort. Dual zippers open up to expose the main compartment, and the center flap is outfitted with small pockets on its underside. The exterior is made of water-resistant materials, and a clever, built-in sleeve will secure the Bronzed Extravaganza to the telescoping handle on a larger case or piece of luggage. Fourteen fastening dividers are included so you can custom fit different kinds of cargo, and there's a sleeve for a 15-inch laptop.
The medium-sized Flaked Extravaganza is a well-equipped little suitcase that transforms into a rolling bag with its telescoping trolley handle and anti-jam wheels. It features three storage zones with a removable padded equipment cradle and a twin-zippered lid. The interior has 1,342.5 cubic inches of room (22 liters). It includes an integrated sleeve for a laptop, which is large enough to accommodate a 15-inch MacBook Pro. There are 13 dividers that you can position and reposition with integrated hook-and-loop fasteners. The floor of the Flaked can hold additional cables and accessories. The loops on the front that carry your tripod can be removed when not needed. A padded shoulder strap is also included, which can be removed as well. A TSA lock is integrated into the side of the bag to secure the main compartment, and the front pocket can be closed with a padlock. The exterior is wrapped in water resistant 900D Cordura nylon.
All of the bags in this series have the ability to be easily reconfigured to safely transport different shaped pieces of gear, but the Gourmet Extravaganza undergoes the most impressive transformation of the three. Its main “gear bucket” can be fully removed, freeing up all of the available space in its main compartment. It goes from transporting your entire camera kit to housing your toiletries and vacation clothing. For those of us who live in cramped quarters, this is a really welcome space-saving option. The Gourmet has a spacious 2,196.6 cubic inches of room (36 liters). There are 20 fastening interior dividers included, anti-jam wheels and a collapsing trolley handle. Like the other Extravaganza, it features a water resistant 900D Cordura-nylon exterior. Plus, it even features a 1689D ballistic nylon base. You can use a padlock on the two zippers of its front compartment, and the main compartment can be secured with an integrated TSA lock.
Any one of these bags would make a great solution for different kinds of outings, and having all three would give you total coverage. The Bronzed has your back on day trips, the Flaked is there for slightly more involved journeys, and the full-sized Gourmet can be your suitcase for longer trips. When you’re heading out the door for an extended sojourn with your entire kit in tow, all three bags would allow you to tote an arsenal of equipment.
