This is not meant to filter rays of any wavelength, but solely to protect the front element of an expensive lens with a piece of quality glass that will not affect your images. A quality product for a quality lens. The u/v filters available in the aftermarket will tend to modify the quality of your images. BTW, I just checked the Nikon website and could not find any u/v filters available. Just NC (neutral color) or polarizing filters. Other filters are available, for example, the Skylight filter, to reduce haze. So, you should be safe using the Nikon NC filters for your purpose. Hope this helps.
