Jobu Design BWG-J3DLX overview

  • 1Description

Photographers looking for a high performance tripod head in a very small package should be thrilled with the Jobu Jr.3 Deluxe Gimbal Kit with Swing-Arm HM-J3D from Jobu Design. This head has a one-piece hollow, cast, heat-treated body, making it extremely stiff. It is smaller, lighter, smoother and more compact than the previous BWG-J2K head. The quick-release has been integrated into the swing-arm, making the entire gimbal lighter, while increasing the swing-capacity (maximum lens collar foot size can be taller). There's also a premium, custom-designed fluted knob for a better grip. Quick-release plate is not included.

Needle roller bearings allow smoother tilting under heavy loads and better adjustment of friction. Lockout force has been improved, and overall durability has been improved. It has an overall profile of 9 x 8" (22.8 x 20.3 cm).

Recommended for long lenses such as:

70-200mm F2.8/F4, 100-400mm zoom, 150-400mm zoom, 300mm F2.8/F4, 400mm F5.6, 400mm DO, etc.

Recommended load for lens and camera: less than 10 lb (4.53 kg) total.
The quick-release is integrated into the swing-arm, making the entire gimbal lighter and increasing the swing-capacity.
A custom-designed fluted knob has been added for a better grip.

    Jobu Design BWG-J3DLX reviews

Jobu Jr.3 Deluxe Gimbal Kit with Swing-Arm HM-J3D is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 26.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great small gimbal I do a fair amount of bird photography with a Canon 400mm f/5.6L which can be a bit slow for handheld shots when the light gets low. This gimbal is a perfect fit for that lens (which looks absurd on the huge Wimberley). The Jr.3 has three possible mounting heights for the swing arm, and the 400mm lens works perfectly on the middle setting. This setting is also good for my 300mm f/4L. The gimbal is well made and, when saddled with the weight of my 400mm and 7D, feels every bit as solid as my Wimberley.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very happy with my purchase I got the Jobu Jr. 3 Deluxe to pair with my new Tamron 150-600 lens. Also tried it with the Canon EF 100-400 and both lenses work very well with it. Works well on both tripod and monopod! Another purchase decision for me was weight. I tend to carry gear up on mountains and/or long hikes. I'm willing to carry a 3-4 lb lens up a 14er but don't want to carry another 3-4 lbs of support. This head weighs in at 1.5 lbs and is plenty of sturdy to hold whatever lens I'm willing to haul at a 6 hour hike/climb. In response to some other reviews, yes you cannot tilt the lens vertically up or down - if that's what you need this isn't your solution. However, I use it for wildlife (whales, antelope, birding, ...) and don't feel the need to point a 100-400/150-600 mm range setup to the floor, so works very well for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Front runner in cost class Jobu Design packs performance punch in its Jr Deluxe Gimbal for affordable (as gear goes) price. Jr. is similar to floating in space - weightless, effortless long lens support with easy to use nobs. Using with a Tamron 150-600 mm which is what I purchased it to use with is a dream. Arc swiss style, compact design, weight and material have earned Jr a permanent place in my gear bag.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Quality This gimbal head is high quality and worth every penny. I can't see how a $500+ head is worth paying for when you have an option like the Jobu. The arm is smooth and so is the rotation. I use a Nikon D810 and 200-500 lens on it. I'm very pleased with my purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Smooth, sturdy and lightweight travel gimbal Great product. Sturdy, smooth and light (compared to gimbals for 500mm and above). This will hold a 500mm on a tripod and even has great balance with a 200-500mm zoom without readjustment for min and max range. It is easy to mount on a tripod or quickly move it between Super Clamps if shooting from a vehicle or odd mounting. The integrated Arca-Swiss plate makes it easy for use and for travel. This is primarily used for travel and it fits perfect in my travel pack with a pro body, 500mm lens and all the accessories. I would definitely buy it again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Use a BIG LENS ? You need this thing ! I am using this gimbal head with a Nikon D7100 body and a 200-400mm Nikon lens. It's works great ! It balances the lens and camera body perfectly. I did have to purchase a longer mounting plate. Now I can let go of the camera and lens and it stays level even without using the tightening knobs for vertical or horizontal swings. For me, it's a great investment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Durable and sturdy I got this for my 150-600 mm tamron lens. First off you do have to buy a quick release plate for this to attach your lens to the gimbal, if you don't already have one. Second this is a very well built product and very easy to use. My lens and camera don't move while on this gimbal and I love the panning and how you can tilt the lens up or down and the lens stays on and doesn't shift. Price was reasonable as I didn't want to pay $500-$600 for this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from light and compact this my first gimbal so i cant compare to the more expensive models. fluid and sturdy. simple design. lighter and more compact than i expected which is what i wanted. vertical adjustment is perfect on the position it came in for my nikon 200-500. but at 500mm my d5600 is so light i have to slide qr plate too far back to get acceptable vertical tilt. will add a hockey puck to solve the problem. not the gimbals fault. once balanced properly it will tilt up almost vertically. great size for the backpack. love it
