Unveiled: DJI Phantom 3 Standard

38Share

The latest addition to DJI’s Phantom 3 line of UAVs is the red-striped Phantom 3 Standard. Priced below the Phantom 3 Professional and Phantom 3 Advanced, the Phantom 3 Standard still offers many features to its users. For photographers and videographers, its built-in 3-axis gimbal stabilized camera can take 12MP stills and capture smooth video in resolutions up to 2.7K at 30 fps with bit rates of 40 Mbps.

Intelligent flight modes for executing maneuvers previously restricted to UAV’s with higher-end hardware include Follow Me, Waypoint Navigation, and Point of Interest. Follow Me mode trains the aircraft to automatically follow its controller. Waypoint Navigation mode allows the pilot to set up a custom route for the Phantom to fly while the pilot controls the camera. With Point of Interest mode the pilot can achieve cinematic shots by choosing a point on the map for the Phantom to circle, while the camera stays centered on the selected point. On a full charge the Phantom 3 Standard will operate for up to 25 minutes and real-time battery info is sent back to your mobile device so you know how much flight time is left.

The Phantom 3 Standard is ready-to-fly and includes a specially designed transmitter. Operating over 5.8 GHz with 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi from the video downlink, the transmitter can control the Phantom 3 Standard from up to a half a mile (approx. 1 km) thanks to a range extender in the controller. A built-in clamp holds a smartphone which, while running the DJI Go app, will display a 720p HD video feed straight from the Phantom 3 Standard’s camera. Additionally, the app can control the camera, track your flight path, relay flight information, and quickly edit video for sharing immediately.

Hello...love my new Phantom 3 Standard!  How do I point the camera straight down?

Thank You!

Geoff

You can adjust the tilt of the camera using the controls on the app or on the remote control.  If for some reason you are having an issue with this, I would suggest sending us an email and an agent would help trouble shoot what might be going on.  [email protected]

Does this model havea headless mode?

Hi Anton -

When the GPS lock is engaged this craft offers an Auto Return to Home (headless) function.

Please contact us via e-mail if you have additional questions:  [email protected]

Would i be able to mount my Phantom 3 Pro 4k camera and record in 4k without any issues and still be able to use the new features that come with this Phantom 3?

Hi Dana -

You can swap the entire camera and integrated gimbal accessory.

Please contact us via e-mail if you have additional questions:  [email protected]

The DJI Phantom 3 is what I think I want, however, but I assume the camera can not point down like an over heard shot? Correct? and for the camera or video to film the unit must turm toward the object, if not the camera will show the legs in the clip, Correct?

You can point the camera straight down, and to pan "rotate" you need to rotate the quadcopter. The gimbal does not rotate on the horizontal plane.

Correct.  Because the landing gear will get in the way of your shot.

.

The camera can be pointed straight down.  The camera cannot pan seperately from the drone.  Panning requires manuevering the drone itself.

Bob1,

Jeez, I just ordered this drone today, and it'll be here tomorrow.  However after reading all of the negative comments I'm

anything but excited about it now.  Don't get me wrong, I really like B & H a lot, and have done business with them for

years, but I'm wondering if I should bite the bullet and upgrade to a more expensive drone that's been in the field a while,

or even a differient model alltogether.  I rely on factory support on everything I buy it seems, but if  this factory doens't have good

support then I may have messed up.  Also someone above mentioned something about "Tablets", is that the same as the Iphone

I was going to use?  Will a IPad work better?  My Iphone sure has a small window and it's hard to see in the daylight.

Well, my DJI came in a day early so I was sure pleased about that.  I did the inventory and all was there.  I spent the last

few hours getting batteries charged, parts sorted, and just generally admiring my new drone.  This is my 2nd, my first being a little $100 Ethos QX 130, which I've nearly worn out.  Finally it was time to put everything aside and watch the $35 DVD I

ordered with the drone.  I set up my DVD player, got a glass of tea, and was ready to watch the DVD a couple of times this

evening.  However, when I opened the DVD case, there was no DVD.  It's no big deal really, I know B&H will make good on it, but now I'm set back another 2 - 3 days waiting for it to come in.  I really don't want to try and fly this thing without

watching that disk.  I just don't know how something like that could happen, it's really agravating to say the least.  It had to of been something screwy in the packing room.  I've ordered 100's of DVD's over the past 20 or so years and have never had this happen. There wasn't a plastic protective wrapping on the DVD case either. Ok, i'm not going to dwell on

this, but you guys (gals) be sure to have them check before they send one to you.

So, I suppose I'llstry to figure out how to download the app for the drone.  Maybe that'll go smoothly.  Maybe not.

Anyway, have fun flyling if you're ahead of me and already in the air!

Bob1

Look up dji Phantom 3 on youtube and click on a video from dji. You will find very comprehensive flight instruction videos that will give you the confidence to go out and give it a go.

I am sorry you did not recieve the DVD with your purchase.  If you still have not located the video online to view, please contact our Customer Service agents and they could assist you with that. You mail email them at [email protected].

1 added note:  If you don't have them already in your posession, I HIGHLY recommend you get some Prop guards.  The removable ones are great if you have or plan to buy a gear case for your aircraft as you can take them off so the aircraft firt in the case.  Summitlink prop guards are great and only 20 bucks.

It's not about lacking flying skills (although it will save props while you learn),  It's about the landings.  Sometimes a gust of wind will kick up or you will land on an uneven surface and the aircraft will just slowly tip over after you land... WHILE THE PROPS ARE STILL ROTATING = time for new props.  Just a suggestion that could save you money in the long run.

DJI is still a relatively new company so their customer support has had issues in the past but they are working hard to resolve this and they are getting better and more attentive.

Tablets in this context would refer to devices such as an iPad or similar devices running on the Android platform.  The iPad and iPhone will have the same brightness capability however the iPad with its larger screen will be easier to work from.  Both are good options to work with.

Its a very nice update...

But, I'll keep my older Phantom 1 - 2... Anyone who has flown one has had their fair share of crashes, The trend of DJI and others is proprietary their products... For an example you crash and loose a motor and ESC. The rest of air frame is OK. A Phantom 1 or 2 you get the parts (ESC - motor) and replace them (good with tools and soldering iron), and  your back to work... for well under $100.00 and 15 - 60 minutes... Phantom 3 its a new Main board and its out of service - grounded for time to get the new board and motor... Even on eBay boards are well over $300.00 plus motor...

A few weeks age I had a chance to talk to some DJI Reps at Conic-Con San Diego and offer my options...

Below is the product link to the drone on our website for you to regard.  There you will be able to view the current price and availability as well as other product details.

I would put more trust in these ads if B&H tested the products before offering them to the public. None of the comments are from people who have actually used this drone, and three of the comments would make me hesitate about buying one.

Could not agree more.  I'm a long-time five-figure B&H customer, and I would like to hear the B&H experience, not the B&H commercial!

Beware of DJI, their service sucks and they specialize in dodging issues with their email only customer service.  I have spent 3000. with them and I am totally disatisfied.

I've bought 3 of the Phantom Vision 2+ 3.0.  The first one has been at the factory for 6 weeks due to malfunctions I experienced with communication between the Ipod and the camera.  I bought two more from B&H which experienced the same issues and had to send them back.  The factory techs have now shipped the original purchase back (not yet received) and tell me there was nothing wrong with it but the have 'updated' it.  This looks like a cse of the consumer paying for the development of a product that was not ready for delivery.

I Purchased the Phantom 3 pro 4k from B&H. I had some issues which turned out to be my not undrestanding of the instructions, called dji customer help line and they resolved the issue. After correcting the issue I have had no further problems.

These people cant even get their present line of drones to function right  and they come out with another product? I have spent $100s buying extra tablets that they said would work and don't. Cheated, YES!

Finally a drone/quadcopter with a incorporated camera (I'm tired of searching for a good cam for drone)... well will need to see REAL WORLD TEST, just wondering if the video is wide angle, cause I hate those wide-angle-curved-view... Next standard model should come with a screen as well, I hate WiFi cause of the delay...But Im still not sure to replace my old rone with this new model: The DJI Phantom 3 Standard or the 3DR Solo Drone or even the Yuneec Q500+ Typhoon Quadcopter...

Are the 3 flight modes available now. Also I feel cheated that the flight modes aren't available on my professional. Will they be available for it and when

I have an Advanced and feel somewhat ripped off, but I bet they will come out with a firmware update to include these features for the 2 higher end models..  In fact over on the dji website, they say all 3 features will be released in the next few weeks.  Be patient.  This is a great aircraft and the best value for the money IMHO..

Does this model have the return to base if contact is lost?

The DJI Phantom 3 Standard does have the feature where it will return to base if contact is lost, though it needs to be in GPS mode.

Hi Christina,

isnt it always on GPS mode?

Hi Shay -

Simply stated - yes GPS is always engaged and controls the stability of flight.  In "ATTITUDE" mode the operator is offered greater manual control.
