With Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) glass, multicoated elements, and a waterproof housing, the Pentax 8x42 Monocular offers impressive optical performance and can become a useful companion even in adverse weather conditions. Its lenses deliver crisp images with true color, high contrast, edge-to-edge clarity, and improved brightness and resolution, thanks to multiple anti-reflection coatings. While 8x zoom delivers optimal low-jitter magnification that fits a multitude of situations, the larger-than-average aperture increases image brightness even in low-light conditions. In addition to observing distant objects, the device can also serve as a magnifier for studying your collectibles using the included magnifier stand. To add versatility to the device, its housing is made of metal and features waterproof performance. It features rubberized armoring and knurled rings for a non-slip grip and offers a rubber twist-up eyecup to accommodate wearers of eyeglasses. Also included are a wrist strap, lens cap, and a nylon carry case.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from More than I expected This was a monocular for my young child who has difficulty looking through binoculars. He does well with this, and enjoys using it. I love the optics on Pentax's binoculars, I think they are the best for the price range. This monocular also has excellent optics. Also, this comes with an attachable magnifier so the monocular can be used as a microscope too. Excellent addition with all sorts of fun applications.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good optics, good build, but not ideal for use while hiking I bought this monocular as a light-weight alternative to a full set of binoculars for hiking. I already owned a Bushnell 10x42 Legend Ultra HD, but wanted something just a bit smaller/lighter. The Pentax optics are great, and provide a clear, bright, undistorted image. The build quality is very good. The eye cup is extendable for use with or without glasses (like the Bushnell), which is great. The focusing is a bit stiff (this may improve over time), and requires two hands to operate. The focusing of the Bushnell is much more convenient and can be done with one hand. The microscope adapter for the Pentax is interesting, but the down side is that it substantially increases the size of the carrying case, and makes it unnecessarily bulky if you aren't carrying this attachment. One final place where the Pentax loses points is because the lens caps fall off very easily -- I would leave them at home when I went hiking so as not to lose them. For these reasons, I will be sticking with my Bushnell for hiking, and will use the Pentax for other purposes.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Monocular It's hard to find a good monocular. Reason being your looking through one eye as apposed to a 3D view. However, this Pentax beauty is great. Excellent clarity, sharpness etc. However, if you do not wear glasses, be aware that when looking through the eyecup you will never get a perfect view with your eye fully in. You get a barrel distortion and the thing moves around. But, when placed well the image is great. In fact close to Swarovski quality less the purple fringing I saw on the snow.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Monocular This monocular is clear and can see hundreds of yards away. It is reasonably small that I can carry it with me when I go hiking, etc. It also comes with a microscope lens attachment which is great. Pouch is great too.
