3 Legged Thing Albert overview

  • 1Description

The Equinox Albert Carbon Fiber Travel Tripod with AirHed 360 Ball Head from 3 Legged Thing has five leg sections that can extend to a maximum height of 74.4" and also go as low as 8.9". At the 23° angle leg spread, which is considered a normal stance, the tripod can support a maximum of 66 lb. (The legs have two additional wider stances, and these support less weight.) The twist locks' Para-lock feature works by restricting the opening movement of the friction lock, preventing you from accidentally unscrewing the lock until the leg section detaches.

The three-section center column can be inverted, enabling the user to raise the height of the tripod, while physically lowering the camera to the desired height. This is a helpful feature for doing macro photography. Fold the legs 180° in reverse to make the tripod more compact for travel and storage.

The ball head offers separate ball and pan locks, as well as a lock for the plate. An Arca-type compatible quick release plate with a 1/4"-20 camera screw is included with the head.

All 3 Legged Thing tripods have a detachable leg with standard 3/8"-16 threads at both ends. The Tri-mount plate and threaded bolt can be unscrewed and removed from the top of the center column, then screwed directly onto the leg. The detachable leg can be used as a monopod, microphone boom, or selfie stick.

3 Position Leg-Angle Stops
The legs spread to three angles of 23°, 55°, and 80°
Para-Lock Leg Locking System
Para-locks work by restricting the opening movement of the friction lock, preventing you from accidentally unscrewing the lock until the leg section detaches.

    3 Legged Thing Albert reviews

Equinox Albert Carbon Fiber Travel Tripod with AirHed 360 Ball Head is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from It's nice. If I could separate this, I would give five stars for the legs and three for the Airhed. The Airhed is mostly sturdy enough to handle my A7R2 with the 24-240 lens, however, I noticed when tightening the ball head into position, it would shift as you turn the knob. And sometimes the camera would drift down if you didn't get it quite tight enough. The position of the knobs made it a little awkward to get it tightened just right - both the plate and the top 360 pan. Ultimately this won't be a problem for me because I'm going to be getting a different head for it. The legs are great. I would definitely recommend the legs to anyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I am in LOVE with my 3LT tripod 3LT made a believer of me. Let me start by saying that the Albert is not just gorgeous but it is a solid tripod. Thisis a precision made tripod. Very compact to carry and lots of height when in use. The legs - Are strong and solid. The Para-locks are easy to use and very precise. The Head - The Airhead 360 ball head is well made with great precision too. Solid and will hold any type of DSLR or mirrorless. The Bag - It comes with a nice and strong carrying bag that doubles up as a counterweight to give the tripod greater stability when needed. This has become my tripod of choice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Insane After using an ok but entry level tripod for the last several years and being frustrated by its short comings I decided it was time to step up my game. Upon the arrival of my 3LT Albert my first impression was how huge it was. I mean this thing is easily twice as big as its predecessor in my kit. My immediate thought was I need to send this thing back and get something smaller. But being me I took it out of the box and played with it that night. The more I played the more smitten I became. The 3LT Albert literally does anything and everything you could want a tripod to do. For ultimate stability the center column is removable and pan at any angle ball head can mount directly to the legs. One leg detaches for a sturdy monopod, mic boom, selfie stick, hand held light stand, weapon, or anything else you cant think to use it for. The feet are removable and could be replaced with screw on spikes which would be purchased separately. The center column can be reverse mounted for macro as well. Top top it off the whole thing stores in a sweet canvas carrying bag with a handle and shoulder strap to carry it with.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A solid set of legs. I've been using 3 Legged Thing Tripods now for several years. I would say, this is the best one I've owned to date. It is sturdy, good height, and went folded makes it easy to transport. I like the fact every 3LT tripod also comes with its own carry case. The included tool is nice to clip on to a bag and use to tighten the legs if or when they start to get a little loose, plus you can use it with their tripod plates and Peak Design plates. No more carrying coins around in my bags! I also like the dark look to this series.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely awesome legs I own a dozen good tripods, mostly for studio use. I wanted one for on-location and travel, and ended up trying and buying four. A year later, the legs on this tripod have far exceeded my expectations and I rarely use the other three. Extraordinary design (66 lb capacity, 74 - 9 inch height, monopod built in, easy to break down & pack), great size for travel (folded length less than 20 inches, includes soft case), and seriously sturdy in the 23 degree position, even when I use a good fluid head, a Kessler kwik-release, and an Acratech Large Leveling Base. Admittedly, I do not use the included ball head. Nor do I understand the reviewers who complained about these legs. In truth, I agree with none of what they said. Still, why give it 5 stars when I don't use the ball head? Because these legs are better than many costing 3 times this price. And I know. I have them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Equinox Albert Tripod from Three Legged Thing I took my "Albert" out on its maiden voyage and I was quite satisfied. Most videos on YouTube about anything 3LT were positive with the exception of one fairly well known YouTuber that couldn't get the Leo model to work satisfactorily. I had no such issues. The twist lock legs are quite intuitive and work well. The AirHed has two ways to adjust the panorama setting. The manufacturer recommends placing the orange knob to the lens side of the camera as it is the one that releases the plate attached to the camera. This concept is quite good and I never feared that my camera might fall off the tripod. Overall it is pretty solid, packs up pretty small and even the colour scheme is acceptable. I am very happy with my 3LT.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So far so good. I took the Three Legged Thing, Albert to shoot lighthouses during cold and rough conditions on Southern Lake Michigan. The tripod held up well, and allowed me to take sharp photos while being buffeted by wind and spray. Two of the feet did fall off. I've replaced the feet and would suggest, perhaps, adding blue locktite.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Sturdy but the shortcomings drive me crazy! I replaced the Brian evol2 with this one thinking it would be an upgrade and I really wanted to like it. In some ways it was much improved with some compromises. I have used this tripod for 6 months now. Pros: Very sturdy Pretty colors, unique design removable monopod Height once extended Low on the ground once center column removed but a pain to do. Compact allow to fit into suit case for travel Cons: Too heavy especially for carbon fiber tripod, the hardware is too heavy; Makes me not want to use it at all which defeats the purpose of having one. The locking mechanism has nice grips to them but the washer on top of each seems to come loose constantly and even though you turn the locking mechanism all the way to tighten sometimes if the washer above is loose or not engaged properly, it can still loosen and fail. Not sure how to fix this. The thing that drives me crazy the most is that packing this away takes me a long time to do for this reason. The legs of the tripod can not easily fold back completely and align with all the knobs and the head mounting plate which then you have turn it to make it loose in order to align it to allow the leg to fold into the groove. This means when you want to pull it out to use it again you have to make sure the head platform is tightened every time you use it so your camera is not using. The center collumn is very difficult to screw on and off as the grooves have to be aligned perfectly or it will not engage. Overall it tries to be too much that you loose the ability to use its main function as a normal tripod that you can use easily and light enough for you to want to cary it around.
