The Octopus.Camera OctoPad Universal Weighted Support Base with Removable Ball-Joint Head is a support system that you lay down onto a surface and it provides a stable platform for mounting your camera and accessories weighing up to five lb. The OctoPad can also be used to support small light fixtures as well as audio gear, using the built-in 1/4"-20 threaded mounting stud or the included ball-joint head.

Made from Cordura and neoprene, it is filled with aggregate and stainless-steel shot that provide both weight and stability, and incorporates a proprietary anti-slip material on the bottom. A cable management strap helps keep any cables connected to your camera, mic, or light organized, while the grommeted tab allows you to safely secure the OctoPad.

It supports up to 5 lb at up to 6" above the OctoPad.
The crushed aggregate (stone) and stainless-steel shot that fill the OctoPad provide weight and stability, while allowing some measure of flexibility to help it conform to uneven surfaces.
The Cordura and neoprene construction provide a wear-resistant base, while the proprietary anti-slip material on the underside of the base helps keep the OctoPad from slipping when placed on most surfaces.

OctoPad Universal Weighted Support Base with Removable Ball-Joint Head is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very useful and great value I didn't know what to expect when I bought this, but now I can't say enough good things about it. It really does do everything as pictured in their videos and is both a great time-saver and a great shot-saver when doing something impromptu. When I set it down, it just stays put - I don't need to tweak anything in order to get it stable. So I can concentrate on adjusting the frame and then I can leave it set where I want it, instead of tweak camera, tweak tripod to get it stable, then tweak camera again because tweaking the tripod changed the frame. The included ball head is just a simple little one but it is not junk and has not shown any signs of wearing out. It is surprisingly strong and has no problems holding up my Canon 77D with 17-50 zoom. I have a Revo handgrip and this also comes in handy when I need extra height. The ability to set it at an angle is another great thing. The bottom is made of some kind of miracle wetsuit-like fabric that really clings. So it's no longer necessary to search for a flat place to set up. All in all I'm very satisfied with it and it's a great value.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A worthy successor to the old bean bag, but much better I needed more height, so I'm using the Leica long ball head and it's perfect. Here's a photo of my rig: Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 VR mounted on the Nikon D610. Stability is excellent. I haven't used the OctoPad's included ball head yet because it's too short for my needs. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 stars because of the short OctoPad ball head. Otherwise, it's perfect.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beyond what I expected This was an impulse purchase, as it was on sale for one of those limited time flash-deal type things, and I knew needed something kinda like this. My expectations weren’t high or low, so when it turned out to be a great item for the price, I was pretty happy

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Interesting item Found on the daily special deal at a great price. Will be useful for many purposes. A bit heavy for some trips where with and size is a consideration. But will use many times on road trips, etc.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice unit for low shots! I wanted something that I could use outdoors on a windy day if needed - I have the joby stuff, and I like those too, but if you are on a flat surface, this is much better. not going anywhere! - not sure I could put my larger camera on this, but for my smaller ones, it seems to work great! - I don't love the included ball head, but that is just my preference - I'd still use it with it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid but Stinky ... temporarily. I tested this base with a 3 lb.-ish FZ2500 fully extended, as well as a 22" high LED stick light (vertically positioned, of course) and the little weighted pad held everything really well without toppling -- just wobbling a bit. So as a base for lighting or mics, in particular, this thing rocks. However it also stinks from the off-gassing rubber base as soon as the weird sewn-on paper cover is removed. But setting it someplace open for a few weeks takes almost all of that away, so it IS temporary. I'd recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well Designed Beater of the "Tiny Tripod" I have to tell you when I saw this I knew immediately how to use it, dash-cam. My wife and I RV and if you own an A type you know there is a sea of dash under the windshield. With the Octopus and my handicam we have a hi-def dash-cam with all the bells and whistles as well as a portable, stable platform for any equipment traveling with us that can access a tripod. Bought on sale, we have a dash-cam setup in the RV for $15.00. The Octopus is well made with sturdy materials and nice touches like cable management and a ball head for unlimited positioning (I long ago replaced all my standard tripod heads with balls). There is also a grommet if you need a safety cord or want to hang it for transport or storage. The bottom material is truly "sticky" and does not slide easily. The weight also lends to the overall stability. I would recommend to anyone who uses a small tripod. Is it as portable and lightweight? No, but it is much more versatile and stable and you can still pack your "tiny tripod".

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Clever little base Got this on a whim, but it turned out to be quite useful. I own a recording studio full of audio gear and stands, but this little fella is really the best device for a table top microphone stand I've ever come across. I have all the typical short profile mic stands but in table top or desk top applications they're really all either overkill or to flimsy. This thing holds mics SOLID and low, and with minimal vibration. As a camera stand it is limited to DSLR's and Blackmagic Pocket Cinema cameras, and phones/tablets with a clip, all of which I use with this OctoPad. Mainly for shooting out in the field or hiking. It's a bit heavier than the typical little plastic tripod base but it's a more solid base when used. The wetsuit-style material on the bottom really is non-slip and I have tossed it on rocks and logs and such and there was really no way it was going to slide or slip. Totally a superior little base for these type of applications if you don't mind carrying an extra pound of weight. I have used it to hold the Aputure 196 and 528 LED light panels as well. Pretty darn handy. It seemed hit or miss in the listing, but now that I have it I find I am using it more than all of my other mini-stands combined. If I lost this thing (which I'm sure I will sooner or later) I would definitely replace it immediately.
