Leofoto LS-324CEX Reviews

A very good, sturdy tripod for general purpose use

This is an incredible tripod for the money and better than any other tripod I have ever purchased. All the experts say to purchase a good quality tripod when starting out, but I thought I could get away with less expensive units. I watched an interview with a pro photographer in the B&H Optic series and he stated that this was the best tripod for the $$$. That was the first time I had ever heard of this brand. I spoke to a B&H rep about what I needed to do better Macro photography, and he said my old tripod was not sturdy enough to support my camera and macro lens and a new NiSi macro focusing rail. A carbon fiber tripod is much better at reducing camera vibrations than my old tripod with aluminum legs. I also like the feature of a 15 leveling head at the top. It is much easier to adjust this leveling head than it is to do minor adjustments using a ball head. This leveling head will also be handy when attempting to do a series of panorama images when the tripod is standing on non-level terrain. This tripod has no center column. That is fine for me because using a center column is never as stable as keeping the center column down. I am 6 ft tall and this specific model if high enough for me to use without having to bend over to see thru the camera viewfinder. And the fact that it has no center column means it is lighter to carry and takes up less room in a tripod camera bag. This tripod also is usable flaton the ground if I want to take low down images. This is impossible on tripods with a center column. I believe that this is a very good purchase (for me), and will serve me well in the foreseeable future.

Great combination with Jobu Jr Deluxe gimbal

I was looking for a strong but lightweight tripod for hiking/bird photography with my Canon 100-400. Something like my small Gitzo but reaching eyelevel without the centre column. I have had a larger Gitzo and Wimberley gimbal using my Sigma 300-800 for many years so was looking for a generally lighter combination but the same ease of use (I don't get the Sigmonster out so much these days). At first I was wary of the levelling base - concerned about strength, but now I'm a convert. Note my mention of the Jobu head - at first I tried the Slik SGH-300 Compact Gimbal Head (see my review elsewhere) but ultimately that was not up to the job. B&H were out of stock for the Jobu so I purchased elesewhere. This tripod is relatively compact and light but sturdy enough to do the job. My only complaint is that the leg angle is a bit tight compared to Gitzo, but it can be adjusted.

Great all around product, from size, weight, usability, design, not to mention stability, and ease of set up in the field. The quarter twist locking mechanisms work superb. Oh, and did I mention too this carbon fiber tripod looks great and won't break your bank account when buying. Couldn't be happier with it!

Very Affordable, well-featured tripod w/ a few drawbacks

The is an incredible tripod for the money and imho the best travel tripod. It has several features from higher end tripods at a fraction of the cost but there are a few quirks worth noting: (1) the legs are a bit too narrow in the default position. As a result, the tripod is not stable. It is very stable in low mode and relatively stable once you get to higher levels but I wish they had just made the legs a few degrees wider. (2) The self-leveling version which I have (the 325-CEX) does not have standard mounting points on the underside (although there are three small screw holes which are not spec’d in the manual). These would be especially useful to hang a bag or other counterweight to make the tripod more stable. (3) The leveling base could be more robust. I have really tightened the tripod head down but get nervous that it will buckle under too much weight. Overall, this is a very well built tripod with a great feature set. I would strongly recommend it, even with the quirks listed above. WISH LIST: A version with a single adjustment for each leg (like the Sachtler Flow Tech or Manfrotto Fast Adjustment system).

Does the LS-324CEX have a quick release?

Does the LS-324CEX have a quick release?
Asked by: Keith
No, it does not. The Leofoto LS-324CEX Ranger Series Carbon Fiber Tripod with 15-Degree Leveling Base, B&H # LELS324CEX, listed above is a tripod by itself. A tripod head is not included, therefore, no quick release is included with the tripod purchase. You would have to purchase the tripod head separately; you may then check if the tripod head you choose includes a quick release plate or if one must be purchased separately. The following is listed under the “In The Box” section under the Overview tab on our website as included with the above tripod: In the Box • Leofoto LS-324CEX Ranger Series Carbon Fiber Tripod with 15-Degree Leveling Base • 3 x Spike Foot • Hex Key Wrench • Carrying Case • Limited 10-Year Warranty
