Behringer DI20 overview

  • 1Description

The ULTRA-DI DI20 from Behringer is an active, two-channel DI box and splitter. The unit takes a signal from an unbalanced, high-impedance output and feeds it directly into a mixing console or recorder.

Ideally suited for guitar and bass players, the ULTRA-DI DI20 is also useful in live/studio/broadcast applications, for installation contractors and studios/live event engineers. Multiple modes allow for flexible usage, and can also be used by keyboard players to balance their often unbalanced sources.

Three levels of switchable input attenuation allows input levels of up to +48dBu, while a ground lift switch eliminates typical ground loop problems. The unit can derive power either from a 9V battery or by using 48V phantom power.

Active, two-channel DI box/splitter
Converts two separate unbalanced 1/4" line inputs into two balanced XLR outputs
Mono, two-channel or stereo DI-box operation with switchable link mode
Additional split mode where the signal from channel 1 is sent to both XLR outputs
Input 2 usable as channel 1 link output in addition to XLR output
Switchable input attenuation allows for connection to outputs with up to 3,000 Watts
Ground lift switch eliminates typical ground loop problems
Powered from a 9V battery or via phantom power

    Behringer DI20 reviews

    ULTRA-DI DI20 - Active 2-Channel DI Box/Splitter is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is great First night of the box, band number one, had two acoustic guitars, both went in to this box and to the board, the bands fans said the sound was so much better, they normally used a on stage amp. Same night Band number two, Keyboard no problem nice to have a PAD switch on the stage

Rated 5 out of 5 by from ULTRA-DI DI20 removes the hum We connected a computer stereo output through the 2ch direct box to our mixer for our church. Used phantom power from the mixer. It totally eliminated the hum that we had without it. Excellent price.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from You get what you pay for I intended to use this to boost the output from a passive drop-in acoustic guitar pickup. Unfortunately, the amount of gain I needed to use didn't change, but the hiss from the DI box made it unusable. It does work passably on the high output from a synth, but you have to use the mixer's pad. The attenuator on the DI box wrecks the SNR (unless you have a truly loud source.) Between electric guitar effects and the amp sounded awful though it might be okay with a bass.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not suitable for video I bought this primarily for use on location when shooting events, to take a feed out of the DJ or house sound system. I wanted something compact that would allow me to take a feed at line level and knock it down, or split a mic feed into two legs so I could hang a wireless transmitter on one. The fact that it is powered and therefore shouldn't lower the level when splitting a mic was a plus. Unfortunately, while this may work well for amplified audio work, a pronounced pre-amp hiss makes it unsuitable for video work, and I couldn't get it to work as a passive device without power. Yes, I know it was only $, but I was hopeful that Behringer's reputation for value would come through on this unit (I own other Behringer equipment and have been pleased.) Nope. Not this time. Videographers should stay away from this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid value I rate this 5 stars based on its bang-for-buck value. You get two separate direct input line-ins for much less than the cost of other single line DI's. It can also be configured as pass-through which allows you to place it between an instrument and your own on-stage amp. The pads are handy for real hot signals. It will also run on a 9V battery in case you can't provide phantom power. Sounds clean. Seems sturdy. Great value.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't work as a 2 channel box I bought these with the intention of using them as a 2 channel DI. However, regardless of how the link switch was set I always got an output on both XLR's They would work as a splitter box just fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Buy, esp for Mobile DJs I use the DI20 with a DJ Mixer that only has unbalanced RCA outputs. I used a dual RCA to 1/4' to connect the mixer to the DI box and then i could connect the box (via XLR outputs) to my powered sub and speakers. It works great and is fast to set up.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great deal for your money! Works great for connecting a DJ MIDI controller to the balanced input of a powered speaker. You can have stereo with 2 speakers, and run long XLR mike cables. Use a 9V Lithium cell and forget about the battery running low for a while.
