  • 1Description

The 500mm f/8.0 Telephoto Lens for T-mount from Vivitar is an ultra-telephoto lens that brings distant objects close and is ideal for wildlife photography. It is also used for landscapes, cityscapes, architecture, sports and celestial photography and multiple general photography applications. The lens' multi-coating process provides even light transmission and minimizes flaring to produce sharp, high contrast images. A built-in rotatable tripod collar provides vibration-free stability when used with a tripod or monopod. This lens requires a T-mount adapter to attach to a camera body, but can be compatible with virtually all film or digital SLR cameras.

    Vivitar 500mm f/8.0 reviews

    500mm f/8.0 Telephoto Lens for T-mount is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Decent lens for the money I'm not writing a bad review, just trying to be realistic. for what you get for the price, this thing is excellent. the optics work pretty well, but I'm planning on using this for astro-photography and here's the shortcomings. it has quite a bit of chomatic abberation, MTF is acceptable, but not great, and shots of the moon/sun look decent. Also, the focus register seems to be useless, but perhaps the back focal distance on my T-mount adapter is wrong, although after a few lab tests I think it's the lens. This is usable for sun/moon shots, but stars/planets don't come out all that great due to the chromatic abberations and sub-optimal MTF, even at a single color. Ultimately I think I'm going to pick up a better lens, but I'll still use this for some things.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from good lens to learn on I have taken some great pictures of the moon . I like it because it slows me down and take my time to get it just right. I suggest you put the camera in manual before you start taking picture with this lens.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love this lens Considering the cost this lens is great. If you are comfortable with manual focus and metering this lens is for you. I have managed some really sweet nature shots with this lens on my Canon T5i. If you cannot afford the thousands for a Canon lens try this beauty.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice lens for a perfect price. This is a basic lens for amateur use but a good start to define if telephoto is your shooting.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good extreme telephoto for the money. Not made for professional results. But if you want extreme telephoto capability for a low price, then this is a good choice for its focal length. Add a solar filter and I'm ready for the eclipse.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I wanted This is just what I wanted for a Canon APS-C digital and a Canon full frame film camera. On the smaller sensor, the effective magnification is 800mm, so it is not practical for handheld action, but I don't do that anyway. If I did, I would want a shorter lens for faster speeds. The photo attached was taken from the porch on a tripod from about 40 meters, ISO 400, F8 (wide open) on AV setting, cable release on Canon 650D. The image was cropped very heavily (over half the image), but still sharp. The lens is remarkably light and easy to use. (Canon 650D/Ti4 has a fine focusing view that magnifies the image on the screen many times for focusing.) I am used to large format so I don't mind all the manual aspects and tripod. Does anybody know the lens design of this--is it a dialyte design? That would explain the sharpness wide open. Note--using this on a crop-sensor like mine utilizes only the central part of the image, which is usually the best part. I have tried the full frame fill camera, but have not developed the film. In that case, hand holding might work at 1/1000--the angle of view as not as narrow.
